The ducking stool is dated 1686. It was used to punish disorderly or scolding women by fastening them into the chair and ducking them into the local pond which was in the High Street by Boots. The pond was filled in nearly 200 years ago.

Our ducking stool originally had wheels but these were lost about 100 years ago. It originally looked similar to the sketch below.
