News Update – 14 March 2022

Recently we have had a few enquiries about reopening the museum so in response to those enquiries here is a news update.

Although we have been closed to the public for nearly 2 years a small team of volunteers have been hard at work during much of that time.

They have gone through every box and cabinet to update our collection inventory. Hundreds of photos recently donated to us have also been scanned and catalogued.

Some work still remains to catalogue a large number of donated documents.

Recently our volunteers have deep cleaned the museum and are now setting up some “all new” displays ready for opening soon.

No date has been set yet so watch this space.

Any enquiries to rwbmuseum@gmail.com

There are photos of previous displays on this web site and on Google Maps as well.

Recently we have made short videos about the town and its history which

are hosted on U Tube. The link is  –

There are now videos of :-

  • The lost Breweries of Wootton Bassett
  • History of the Town Hall
  • History of the Dairy
  • History of the Railway Station until closure in 1965
  • The 1808 Print of Celebratory Election March
  • Fire at the Cross Keys 2013
  • Short tour around the museum from 2018

There is a Facebook page called Wootton Bassett – Now and Then which may also be of interest.
